“One of the ways I was blessed by Build and Bless was actually just a few months ago. My husband needed back surgery and it was pretty extensive. It was going to be six weeks where he wouldn’t be able to lay down or move around all too much. And that meant that he wouldn’t be able to sit, so going to the grocery store, going to do laundry, going to school—it was all going to be on me.
And while we were really excited that we had access to the medical procedures that were needed, it was also really overwhelming for me. I knew that a lot more tasks were going to be on my plate. And I reached out to my boss and I let her know that this was something that was going to be going on and that I would need a few days off for his surgery.
I told her a little bit of the stress that I was facing with needing to carry more of the load around the house. One of the biggest stressors for me was actually just going to the grocery store because I hate doing that alone! To me, that was just an overwhelming idea. So, I let her know a little bit about it and she just really opened up with me and was a listening ear.
The day after my husband’s surgery, unexpectedly, I got a message from Kristyn, Lemonade Stand’s Director of Happiness, letting me know that the company was going to be blessing me and my family with four weeks of HelloFresh. It was going to be shipped to my door, and it’d be ready for us so that we didn’t have to go grocery shopping.
It was something so small for the company, but so big to us. And it really made a difference for me, because all those things that seemed overwhelming that were adding up on my plate, my to-dos—one thing was gone, and a really big thing in my book.
I was blessed through Lemonade Stand in a way I couldn’t have expected or hoped for even, but it was a way that made me feel loved by my company in a way that only family is there for you.
