Our Favorite Brighton Build Then Bless Experiences
Take a look at some of the experiences Brighton team members have shared on the community page in the Build Then Bless app:
“My wife and I were travelling back from Salt Lake City to Boise. As we usually do, we stopped in Burley to top off with gas and use the restrooms. When we walked into the gas station, we noticed a woman sitting alone in the small dining area. My wife felt prompted that this woman may need some help.
So, my wife and I introduced ourselves. Her name is Kristine, she has lived in the Burley area for most of her life. However, her landlord recently raised her rent, forcing her to have to leave. All that she owns was packed in an old SUV parked outside. And she was stuck here at this gas station with a virtually empty gas tank, unable to go anywhere else.
We were able to use our BTB card to put $50 in gas into her vehicle and help her in a small way to take the next steps in her journey. Kristine was very thankful that people (and a company) would be willing to have such a program that allows us to help others in small but meaningful ways. We finished our drive home feeling happy to have been able to make an impact on one person’s life that day.”
“We were in Seattle for a weekend trip and we had just finished a good burger at Dick’s Drive In when we saw a man outside asking for food. I had an overwhelming feeling to help out. Luckily, I had my build then bless card on me and was able to buy him a warm meal. Made my wife and I grateful to be able to help someone out.
We had a few other chances during the trip to be charitable and I think that first opportunity to help the man out with the BTB card put us in the mood to be constantly on the look out to just help out where we could. Great experience to bless others.”
“Helped pay off a student’s school lunch debt.”
“My sister encountered significant health adversities over the past year, leading to considerable stress which manifested as alopecia. Losing her hair compounded her feelings of depression and low self-esteem. She wouldn’t leave her house due to embarrassment over her appearance. I bought her a baseball cap with realistic hair extensions. She looks darling in the cap and has resumed activities outside her home.”
“I was leaving the grocery store and saw a man selling his paintings at the corner. His sign only said, “at least I’m trying”. It made me realize that, just because someone is struggling and we can’t necessarily see their efforts doesn’t mean that they aren’t trying their best to get out of a tough situation.”
I turned around and bought him a hot meal. When I gave it to him, he was incredibly kind and grateful for the small act of kindness.”
“A neighbor is going through chemo and hormonal treatments which are affecting their strength and stamina. I sent a food delivery gift card for them to use when they don’t feel like cooking.”
“A relative lost her husband to cancer this week. I sent her a Walmart gift card to help her and her family with food and items needed for their family gathering. And to let her know she is loved and not alone.”
“My family and I were driving through Garden City when we noticed a family from Italy in need next to the Albertson’s. We were able to listen to their story, pray with them, and buy them a bag of groceries. The mom had been let go from her job due to heart surgery that prevented her from returning to work in a timely manner.
Their rent had been raised to the point they are unable to afford their payment. I know we just brushed the surface of their need, but we were happy to be able to do a little bit to help them out. We definitely GOT more than we GAVE.”
“I serve on the board of Buy Idaho and our Executive Director lost her mother on New Year’s eve. I knew in her stress and all the depressing “errands” one has to attend to in these situations, she was not eating.
I bought her a variety of soups and fresh bread and spent some time with her over the weekend. It was bittersweet to hear stories about their lovely holidays together and then, in the following days, how she, her sister, and father (who has dementia) had to say goodbye.”
